چکیده

Modern wireless communication systems require high transmission rates, giving rise to frequency selectivity due to multipath propagation. In addition, high-mobility terminals and scatterers induce Doppler shifts that introduce time selectivity. Therefore, advanced techniques are needed to accurately model the timeand frequency-selective (i.e., doubly selective) channels and to counteract the related performance degradation. In this paper, we develop new receivers for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems and single-carrier (SC) systems in doubly selective channels by embedding the channel estimation task within low-complexity block turbo equalizers. Linear minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) pilot-assisted channel estimators are presented, and the soft data estimates from the turbo equalizers are used to improve the quality of the channel estimates.

Frequency-domain Equalization of Single Carrier Transmissions over Doubly Selective Channels

Wireless communication systems targeting at broadband and mobile data transmissions commonly face the challenge of fading channels which are both time and frequency selective. On one hand, multi-carrier transmission systems demonstrate prominent pot...

Maximum-Likelihood Semiblind Equalization of Doubly Selective Channels Using the EM Algorithm

Maximum-likelihood semi-blind joint channel estimation and equalization for doubly selective channels and single-carrier systems is proposed. Wemodel the doubly selective channel as an FIR filter where each filter tap is modeled as a linear combination of basis functions. This channel description is then integrated in an iterative scheme based on the expectation-maximization (EM) principle that...

Pilot Symbol Assisted Turbo Equalization over a Frequency Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel

A novel pilot-based channel estimation scheme is proposed for frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels which works in conjunction with the existing paradigm of turbo-equalization. The iterative nature of the channel estimation technique provides substantial gain over non-iterative methods, and makes it a suitable choice for iterative equalization and decoding. The use of pilot symbols is de...

Turbo Equalization/Estimation of Doubly Selective Channels using Basis Expansion and Tree Search

For turbo reception of coded transmissions over unknown doubly selective channels, such as time-varying ISI channels or frequency-varying ICI channels, we propose several soft noncoherent equalizers based on basis expansion (BE) channel modeling and tree-search, as a departure from traditional designs based on autoregressive (AR) channel modeling and/or trellis processing. By “noncoherent,” we ...
